Poker formats
At sham789, players can choose and play the Poker format they enjoy most. Each format calls for different strategy and thinking, so the more you play, the sharper you get.
Texas Hold'em
The most widely known Poker format in the world — each player receives 2 hole cards and shares 5 community cards on the table, then builds the best 5-card hand to win.
Most popularOmaha
More complex than Texas Hold'em — you receive 4 hole cards and must use exactly 2 of them combined with exactly 3 community cards, which makes for richer strategy.
For experienced playersLive Poker

To play poker well, you need to know the hand rankings by heart. The higher your hand, the better your chance of beating your opponent and winning the pot.

| 2 | Straight Flush | 5 consecutive cards — same suit |
| 3 | Four of a Kind | 4 cards of the same rank |
| 4 | Full House | Three of a Kind + One Pair |
| 5 | Flush | 5 cards of the same suit (not consecutive) |
| 6 | Straight | 5 consecutive cards (mixed suits) |
| 7 | Three of a Kind | 3 cards of the same rank |
| 8 | Two Pair | Two pairs |
| 9 | One Pair | 2 cards of the same rank |
| 10 | High Card | Decided by the highest card (lowest) |
Poker Strategy Basics
Mind Your Position
When you sit close to the dealer, you get to see your opponents act first — which gives you better control over the pot.
Manage Your Bankroll
Choose a table limit that fits what you can afford, and spread your bankroll evenly across sessions — it's the way to keep playing well over the long run.
Use Bluffing Wisely
Bluffing is at the heart of poker, but you can't do it too often — read how your opponents play and pick only the right moments.
Calculate Pot Odds
Before you call, check the ratio between what's in the pot and what the call will cost you — calling only when the pot odds are in your favour makes more sense over the long run.
